Austria holds photo exhibit in Intramuros to promote diversity

The Austrian Embassy in Manila is organizing an international photo exhibit this January to promote cross-cultural harmony and understanding.

“We are delighted to unveil our Lomography exhibit We Are One in Intramuros. Now, more than ever we need to magnify voices and stories of peace, harmony, and unity to drown out narratives of conflict, discrimination, and fear – especially among children and young people,” asserted Bita Rasoulian, Austrian Ambassador to the Philippines, during the exhibit launch in Fort Santiago on Wednesday, January 29.

1,800 snapshots have been curated among 501 submissions from the international Lomography community and community partners across the Philippines. They feature scenes from the streets of Metro Manila; evacuation camps in Marawi; indigenous groups in Zamboanga; and an Aeta community in Zambales thanks to the contribution of MAD Travel, a social tourism platform supporting marginalized communities across Luzon.

“Each photo is unique. In the same way that each human being is unique – in their beliefs, culture, and background. But the beauty of the exhibit lies in how these unique shots come together to make a singular spectacle. Similarly, our diversity is our strength”, explained Arizza Nocum, co-founder of peace education organization KRIS Library.

The LomoWall exhibit forms part of Austria’s commitment to promoting the holistic physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social development of children as stipulated in Article 27 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The project is a joint partnership with Lomography Philippines, the Intramuros Administration, visual artist Cavemandraws, and KRIS Library, a non-profit organization that promotes peace through youth education.

We Are One runs from January 29 to February 29, 2020 at the Baluartillo de San Francisco Javier in Fort Santiago, Intramuros.

Fort Santiago is open to the public daily from 8:00 AM - 11:00 PM. The entrance fee to Fort Santiago is Php75 for adults, Php50 for PWDs, students, and senior citizens.
