Isko shows mercy to elderly vendor in Quiapo

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno opted not to confiscate the goods of an elderly vendor in Plaza Miranda as he displayed compassion and leniency in a moment captured on video.

Authorities seized makeshift stalls and products sold along Plaza Miranda on Wednesday evening and among them were the goods of the elderly woman.

The city mayor talked to the vendors and allowed them to take back their confiscated goods with the condition that they will not sell their wares on January 8 and 9, according to a report from ABS-CBN News.

Moreno showing some leniency, bought all the goods of a rice cake vendor and gave money to some vendors even though they violated the Manila’s zero vendor policy.

“It doesn’t happen everyday. Ang pinaka-mabisa ay talang sumunod sila sa mga alituntuning pinapatupad… Hindi tayo nagkulang sa pagpapaalala na ipaabot yung panawagan na wag muna, patawad muna,” Moreno said.

He added: “Bilang pag papakita na ang pamahalaan ay may puso pinipilit natin silang unawain. Kaya lang hindi naman  araw-araw pasko kasi sa pasko uso ang pag bibigayan pero yung ganiyang bagay eh ano yan very rare.. so we’re not worried about our policy. As members of the government, we want to show  them the human inside us. Nasuwertehan lang nila iyon.”

The city mayor warned on Wednesday that “vendors and all kinds of obstructions would not be allowed,” saying the local government has already started prohibiting vendors from selling in various areas of the city including Quiapo in preparation for the holding of the ‘Traslacion” of the Black Nazarene on Thursday.
