Job applicants thank Manila's online job portal
#PESOSalamat is a page content made by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO)-Manila on their Facebook page to feature videos of thanks from individuals who are hired through PESO's online job applications.
In their recent posts, hired individuals from Ace Hardware and CNT thanked Manila Mayor Francisco 'Isko Moreno' Domagoso and PESO-Manila Director Fernan Bermejo for accomodating them and helping them find a job.
Also included in #PESOSalamat are the hired senior citizens and PWDs of the City under the Face Masks Sewing Livelihood Program. These individuals are "mananahi" or tailors and master cutters who were employed by the city to sew its washable face masks given for free for the Manileños.
Based on the data from National Statistics Office of the Philippines, the country's employment rate increased to 91.27% in the fourth quarter of 2020 from 90.4% in the third quarter of 2020. However, unemployment rate surged to 8.7% in December 2020 from 4.5% in the same quarter in 2019.
Because of this, Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso ordered Director Bermejo to find and provide jobs for the Manileños amidst the pandemic.
"Naalala niyo sabi ko noong Setyembre kay Director Fernan [Bermejo], "Hanapan ng trabaho ang mga utaw", kasi ang pandemyang ito mararamdaman na natin ang epekto sa ekonomiya sa darating na mga buwan," Domagoso said.
The mayor also lauds the efforts that PESO-Manila made in helping people find jobs amidst the pandemic. The mayor added that the local government should serve as the bridge between the employer and employee today.
"Maging tulay tayo ng tao na naghahanap ng trabaho at negosyante o employer na naghahanap ng empleyado," he added.
According to PESO-Manila's data from February 10, 2021, there are 595 individuals who were hired through Online Local Recruitment Activity, and a total of 1,239 individuals who received service from PESO-Manila. -MPIO
