Manila deploys over 300 vehicles
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan leads the deployment of more than 300 vehicles on Monday, March 6, to address the weeklong nationwide transport strike.
The move aims to provide free rides to commuters during rush hours amid the transportation crisis. Various vehicles from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and Manila Police District were deployed by the mayor.
The Oplan Libreng Sakay includes the deployment of more than 280 e-trikes within secondary roads and 32 vehicles ranging from buses, pick-up, and trucks on major thoroughfares.
The free rides will be available to the public from 5AM to 10AM and 4PM to 10PM, and the following routes will be served:
- Vito Cruz Taft Ave - Quezon Blvd.
- Espana Blvd. - Welcome Rotonda
- Abad Santos Ave. - R. Papa Rizal Ave.
- UN Taft Ave. - R. Papa Rizal Ave.
- Recto Ave. - SM Sta. Mesa
- UN Taft Ave. - P. Ocampo St.
- Monumento Rizal Ave. - Divisoria
- Buendia Taft Ave. - Divisoria
- Buendia Taft Ave. - Monumento Rizal Ave.
- Buendia Taft Ave. - Welcome Rotonda
Mayor Lacuna-Pangan also ensured the strict implementation of minimum health protocols inside the vehicles, such as wearing of face masks and face shields, and maintaining physical distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
