The event took place on Tuesday, May 23, with Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan joining forces with Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma and National Anti-Poverty Commission Vice Chair for Basic Sectors Ruperto Aleroza in the awarding of benefits to deserving individuals.

A total of 104 residents of Manila were fortunate recipients of the livelihood programs provided by DOLE-NCR. The programs encompassed a diverse range of entrepreneurial opportunities, including food carts, carwash businesses, rice retailing, barbecue stalls, carinderia ventures, and tailoring services.

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan expressed her gratitude to DOLE-NCR for their commitment to empowering the informal sectors in Manila. She acknowledged the importance of providing sustainable livelihood opportunities as a means of uplifting individuals and families out of poverty. The Mayor emphasized that these programs are designed to enable beneficiaries to become self-sufficient, generate income, and improve their quality of life.

The collaboration between the Manila City Government and DOLE-NCR demonstrates a shared vision of inclusive growth and poverty alleviation. By equipping the informal sectors with the necessary resources and training, the aim is to empower them to become active contributors to the local economy. These livelihood programs not only provide financial support but also promote entrepreneurship and skills development.

During the awarding ceremony, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma highlighted the significance of collaboration between government agencies and local government units in addressing the needs of the informal sectors. He reiterated DOLE-NCR's commitment to providing sustainable livelihood opportunities that align with the skills and interests of the beneficiaries.

National Anti-Poverty Commission Vice Chair for Basic Sectors Ruperto Aleroza emphasized the importance of these livelihood programs in reducing poverty incidence and creating a more inclusive society. He commended the Manila City Government for their continuous efforts in promoting the welfare of their constituents.

The beneficiaries were elated and grateful for the opportunities extended to them. They expressed their determination to make the most of the livelihood programs and build successful businesses that will not only benefit their families but also contribute to the economic growth of Manila.

The partnership between Manila City Government and DOLE-NCR sets a positive example of government agencies working together to address the needs of the informal sectors. It underscores the commitment of both parties to alleviate poverty, empower individuals, and foster economic progress.

Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan concluded the event by expressing her confidence in the success of the beneficiaries and assuring them of the city government's support throughout their entrepreneurial journey. She encouraged them to persevere, make the most of the opportunities given, and become role models for others in their communities.
