More vertical housing will be erected in Manila for the city’s poor and middle class families, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said in a report by Manila Bulletin.

In his third State of the City Address, Domagoso said about 1,000 more housing units will be built in the city.

The mayor said San Lazaro Residences, Pedro Gil Residences, and San Sebastian Residences will soon be built in the city.

The three housing projects will be 20-story high and will have health centers, according to Domagoso.

“For 50 years, Singapore achieved it, walang iskwater sa Singapore. Kung nagawa ng Singapore, mawawala na rin ang iskwater sa lungsod ng Manila pagdating ng panahon (there are no informal settlers in Singapore. If Singapore was able to do it, the city of Manila will be able to eliminate informal settlers as well one day),” he said.

Currently, the city has four housing projects aimed to give poor families and informal settlers in the city a decent home.

The city has completed one of its housing projects now called the BaseCommunity. More than 200 families received their units in the housing project last July 5.

The local government of Manila aims to complete the construction of Tondominium 1 by December 2021, while Tondominium 2 and Binondminum are targeted to be done by January 2022.

The Manila mayor also revealed in his address that the local government is planning to build a community hospital within the BaseCommunity.

“We will continue to pursue, to give back dignity to every family in the city of Manila,” Domagoso said.
