Manila's Oplan Libreng Sakay serves over 10,000 passengers
In response to the transport strike that happened from March 6 to 9, 2023, the City of Manila launched "Oplan Libreng Sakay" to provide free transportation to the public. The project aimed to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the transport strike and ensure that the commuting public can still go to their destinations without hassle.
A total of 10,914 passengers were served by the project, with more than 300 transport vehicles from Manila Police District, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau deployed on different routes in the city. The free transportation service was available during rush hours from 5 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 10 PM.
The project received positive feedback from the commuters, who were grateful for the city government's effort to provide them with free transportation during the strike. The city government assured the public that they will continue to provide necessary services to the people, especially during times of need.
Mayor Isko Moreno expressed his appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the city officials and employees who made the project possible. He also reminded the public that the city government's priority is to serve the people and ensure their welfare, especially during challenging times.
