The National Resilience Council (NRC) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) joined forces to organize the Manila Resilient Local Government Unit Program (RLGUP) Orientation and Resilience 101 for Barangays. Held at the Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central, this event brought together representatives from 21 targeted barangays in Manila, marking a significant step toward building a more resilient and sustainable city.

The Manila Resilient Local Government Unit Program aims to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience at the local community level. Through this program, participants were provided with essential knowledge and tools to effectively respond to and mitigate the impacts of disasters. The event served as a platform for valuable collaboration and knowledge sharing among key stakeholders.

The orientation and resilience training were made possible through the combined efforts of the City Government of Manila, DOST Philvolcs, BPI Foundation, and ICTSI Foundation. This collaboration highlights the collective commitment of these organizations in promoting a resilient Manila.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, Mayor Honey Lacuna virtually graced the activity and expressed her unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of Manila's citizens. Her presence and support reinforced the importance of building resilience at the grassroots level.

CD John Visca and Mr. Sly Barrameda, prominent figures in disaster risk reduction and management, also shared their insights during the event. They emphasized the significance of effective execution and collaboration in strengthening resilience and preparedness within the community.

As a symbolic gesture of their commitment to building a more resilient and sustainable Manila, participants at the orientation signed a pledge of commitment titled "Paninindigan para sa Isang Matatag na Maynila." This act represented their shared determination to work collectively toward a safer and more resilient city.

The orientation program featured interactive discussions and informative presentations designed to enhance participants' understanding of disaster risk reduction and management. Through these activities, attendees gained valuable insights and practical knowledge to apply within their respective barangays.

The Manila Resilient Local Government Unit Program serves as a crucial milestone in Manila's journey toward becoming a more resilient metropolis. By empowering local leaders and equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, this program aims to foster a Manila that can withstand and recover from any adversity.

With the Manila Resilient Local Government Unit Program, the city is laying the foundation for a more resilient future. By nurturing local leadership and fostering collaboration, Manila is working toward a safer and more sustainable city for its residents.
